Unmissable Barbados Activities for All-Guy Groups

Taking time out to go on holiday with your male buddies is not something most men get an awful lot of opportunity to do. So, when the chance arises, it’s important to make the most of it. Choosing the right destination is essential if your holiday is to be a success and for this reason, choosing a Barbados holiday is something every discerning, all-male group should consider. Offering year-round glorious weather, world-class accommodation, excellent sporting and adventure activities, ultra-relaxed beaches and a wealth of wonderful places to dine and socialise, here are some of the unmissable activities for all-guy parties in Barbados.

Deep-sea fishing

Barbados offers some fabulous fishing experiences, especially if you visit between December and April. At this time of the year, the warm waters surrounding the island are home to over five hundred different fish species, giving you plenty of chance to pit your wits against some of the big local catches, like sailfish, marlin, wahoo, barracuda, yellowfin tuna and dolphinfish.

The best way to experience deep-sea fishing in Barbados is to book an excursion with one of the island’s many experienced fishing tour operators, most of whom are based on the west coast. Highly familiar with the local waters, they’ll know exactly where to find the fish you want to catch and provide you with all the equipment and bait you’ll need for a fun day out. They’ll usually have ample refreshments on board too.

World-class golf

Golf is a particularly popular activity for all-male groups in Barbados. It’s a great sport for warm weather and comes with the added advantage of the 19th hole. There are several excellent courses on the island, including Sandy Lane and Apes Hill. However, Royal Westmoreland’s Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course, overlooking the Caribbean, is exceptional and, being championship standard, offers just the right degree of challenge. It also boasts a halfway house and a clubhouse, a pro shop, changing rooms, club hire, buggies, practice greens, and a driving range.

Reef and wreck diving

Amongst Barbados’ highly transparent coastal waters are some of the Caribbean’s most breath-taking coral reefs. Diving here gives you a rare opportunity to see a spectacular array of sea life including sea horses, octopi, frogfish, turtles, stingrays, barracudas, squid and moray eels. For the even more adventurous, there are also quite a lot of shipwrecks to dive, some of which you can actually explore inside. Try the 110ft long Eillon and the 110-metre long Stavronikita, one of the largest dives in the whole Caribbean.

It is always advisable to go on an organised diving tour and you’ll find a number of operators in and around Carlisle Bay. They’ll ensure your journey is safe and provide you with all the necessary equipment and instruction.

Rum tasting

Rum is a Barbadian invention and Mount Gay Distillery has been making it for over 300 years. Its visitors centre in Bridgetown offers the ideal way to taste the world’s finest rums, learn how to make sublime cocktails and have a great time out with your mates. The centre has an excellent food menu too, so you can round your day off with a veritable feast. You’ll need a taxi home afterwards though.

Motor Sports

If you fancy yourself a bit of a Lewis Hamilton, Barbados has just the place you and your pals need to try out your driving skills. Bushey Park Motor Racing Circuit offers a variety of driving experiences, including Radical racing cars, Suzuki Swift racing, and go-karting.

For racing thrills, choose the go-karting grand prix experience where you can race your mates around the circuit at speeds of up to 50mph. Of course, just like F1, you’ll need to perform well on the qualifying lap to get a good spot on the grid. The Radical Driving Experience, meanwhile, sees professional driving instructors teaching you how to handle a real racing car before letting you loose on the circuit.

Where to stay

For outstanding accommodation with a world-class golf course on your doorstep, find the ideal location for an all-guy holiday. The private, gated, resort of just 250 properties overlooks the stunning west coast and offers a range of luxury villas, apartments, and townhouses. Its top-drawer amenities include a complimentary housekeeper, concierge, private chef service, golf course, modern gym, and tennis courts. There are also some superb eateries on-site and a private Beach Club with seafront terrace dining at the nearby Mullins Beach, arguably the most beautiful beach on the island.
