Cartoons come with some happiness potion. Name them as stress relievers or magic spellers, watching them once kicks away all other thoughts and fills our mind and heart with cheerfulness. We have watched cartoons as children and let’s be honest, we still love watching them. After a long day, when we tune in to watch our favourite show, it fills our heart with nostalgia. Each character in a cartoon show is equally important. There are few cartoon animals that have left behind an iconic impact on our life. 1. MICKEY MOUSE

Mickey Mouse is a favourite name in all households. More than 80 years old but still young and joyful, Mickey was in the first animation to feature synchronised music and sound effects: Steamboat Willie. He is also the first cartoon to have a star in Hollywood’s Walk of Fame to his name. Within a short span of time, Mickey became everyone’s favourite. Mickey Mouse Club aired its first episode on 3rd October 1955 and it was an instant success. Mickey Mouse theme parks were set up and not to forget, Mickey has been photographed with all the US presidents since Harry Truman, except for Lyndon Johnson. Its been long since Mickey’s retirement but he still remains as one of the most famous toon animals.

2. BUGS BUNNY

One of the most iconic cartoon characters in the 20th century, Bugs Bunny. Best known for his roles in Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of theatrical short films produced by Warner Bros, Bugs Bunny has a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame to his name. He is considered as an important icon in American Pop culture. The relaxed and mischevious Bugs would say “Eh, what’s up, Doc?”. Bugs appeared in comic strips, music videos, short films and amusement parks too.

3. WINNIE THE POOH

English author A.A. Milne created Winnie the Pooh. The darling bear is innocent and silly. He isn’t the best or flawless, rather he is someone filled with imperfections. But it never stops him to lose hope or keep going. Living in the forest surrounding the Hundred Acre Wood, Winnie the yellow furred, honey-loving bear gets himself into all kinds of troubles. Milne named the character Winnie the Pooh after a teddy owned by his son. Even if a slow-witted and naive, Pooh is social and goof at heart.

4. SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS

Marine Science educator and animator Stephen Hillenburg created the cartoon series “Spongebob Squarepants” for Nickelodeon. Spongebob is an aquatic animal and resides in the fictional underwater city called Bikini Bottom. He lives in a submerged pineapple with his pet snail Gary. Spongebob who resembles a rectangular kitchen sponge carries a childlike enthusiasm and is filled with optimism. He is a fry cook at a fast-food restaurant and loves jellyfishing. He has one goal and that is to get a license to drive a boatmobile.

5. SCOOBY DOO

“ Scooby-Doo, where are you! “ aired in 1969 had four teenagers and Scooby-Doo, the brown Great Dane who would solve mysteries. Scooby has traits similar to Shaggy, one of the four teenagers. Shaggy is a coward teen who is more determined to calm his hunger than to solve the mysteries. And just like him, Scooby-Doo is has a greater appetite for scooby snacks than anything else. However, his coward smile and loyal nature overshadow everything else. And he successfully becomes one of the most famous cartoon animals.

6. TOM AND JERRY

The most iconic pair that will probably never leave our mind and
the heart is Tom and Jerry. The mysterious duo of the cat and mouse. The American animated series created in 1940, revolves around Tom’s attempts to get hold of Jerry and Jerry’s run to have a life-saving escape. During its peak time, the show won 7 Academy Awards for Animated short film. Tom and Jerry have been criticised for being violent, however, there is no display of bloodshed and everything is in a comical tone. Music and sound play a vital part in this cartoon.

7. DONALD DUCK

Walt Disney production brought Donald Duck into the frame in the year 1934. The white duck with a yellow-orange bill, Donald is characterised by his bad temperament and mischievous habits. He is carefree and joyful. But his anger is the root cause of all the troubles, however, he tries to keep it in check. He lacks patience and screams at everything, but then Donald Duck is not a negative character. He has his goodliness along with his flaws.

8. GARFIELD

Garfield is an orange fluffy cat, hates Monday morning blues and belives that even breathing is an exercise, so doing anything more is too strenuous. Born in the kitchen of an Italian restaurant, Garfield is obsessed with his irrevocable love for lasagna and pizza. It loves to sleep and has a soft side for his teddy bear Pooky. We all identified with Garfield on various levels because come on, who loves the routined life and who will say a no to good food!

9. SNOOPY

The pet beagle of Charlie Brown, Snoopy is an adorable dog. Snoopy lives in his fairy tale land where is almost everything. An author, a college student, an attorney, a British world war I flying ace and many more famous characters. But even if he wants to ace at everything, his imaginary rivals make it impossible for him. At times he is selfish and lazy, but at the same time, he is lovable and loyal. He imagines speaking but all he does is speaks to himself.

10. FELIX THE CAT

Felix the black cat was the first character from animation to earn the popularity that even amazed movie audiences. A major character in the silent film era, Felix the Cat is characterised by the mischievous acts, but he is always willing to help others. He has a white snout, big eyes and a large smile. He loves food and does everything for the last bite too. Even though Felix hasn’t appeared a lot many times on the big screen, the black cat still remains everyone’s favourite.
