There are many mysterious archaeological discoveries that we are exploring since decades. There are many discoveries for which we have proper explanations but many also remain unexplained. 1. Gobekli Tepe
It is one of the oldest temples discovered so far. It was built around 12,000 years ago making it the World’s first temple. It is located about 15 km away from the city of Sanliurfa, Southeastern Turkiye. The temple is a series of many circular and oval shaped structures situated on the top of the hill.
2. Longyou Grottoes Caves
It is located near the village of Shiyan Beicun in Zhejiang province of China. The caves have been built so perfectly at that time making it 9th wonder of the ancient world. It was first discovered by a local villager in 1992. It has stone rooms, bridges, gutters and pools. Only one of the caves has been opened for the tourist since it has the stone carvings which depict a horse, fish and bird.
It is one of the most amazing discoveries of ancient Inca ruins. The complex has a massive area and situated on the northern outskirts of the former capital of the Inca Empire of Cusco Peru. The irregular stones have been placed so perfectly that they look like a jigsaw puzzle. It is also considered like a fortress because it is surrounded by three slopes along with castle like walls.
4. Yonaguni Monument
Yonaguni Monument is a stepped pyramid that lies 25 metres inside the water. It is also known as “Yonaguni (Island) Submarine Ruins”. It is one of the archaeological discoveries that cannot be explained till now.
5. L’Anse aux Meadows
L’Anse aux Meadows located on the northernmost tip of the island of Newfoundland. It was discovered in 1960. It basically represents a failed Viking colony of Norse adventurers from Iceland which is located in Newfoundland. It is also one of the archaeological discoveries that cannot be explained till now.
6. Unfinished Obelisk
It is the tallest obelisk ever raised than any other known obelisk. It is also the largest stone ever quarried. It is located in the northern region of ancient Egypt in Aswan. It was ordered by Hatshepsut basically to complement the Lateran Obelisk.
7. Mohenjo- Daro
It is an archaeological site located in Sindh province of Pakistan. It was built around 2500 BC. It was considered to be the major urban settlements of ancient Egypt. The site is under threat because of erosion and improper restoration.
8. Costa Rica Stone Spheres
The stone spheres of Costa Rica are the best known stone sculptures of the Isthmo-Colombian area. The exact significance is still not known. It is one of the archaeological discoveries that cannot be explained till now.
9. Voynich Manuscript
The language used to written Voynich Manuscript is so much complex that one has been able to decode till now and it is still one of the archaeological discoveries that remains a mystery. The only idea anyone can made about its origin are the drawings found on various pages.
10. Gateway of the Sun
It is megalithic solid stone arch which has been constructed by the ancient Tiwanaku culture of Bolivia. It is approximately 1500 years old. It is located near the Lake Titicaca.
